School Calendar and Hours of Operation

Ivy Creek School operates under the Albemarle County School Calendar and follows the Albemarle procedures for school closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies. Families are encouraged to listen to, or watch, their local television stations regarding possible school closing. Student hours are from 9:00 am. to 3:06 pm. unless noted in the IEP.

Rules and Regulations

The following represents the minimum expectation concerning student conduct and parent/guardian involvement:

1.         No smoking or use of controlled drugs or medication, with the exception of  those prescribed by a doctor and in the school’s possession,  are permitted on school grounds.

2.         Students may not be in possession of beepers, cellular phones or any weapon while on school grounds.

3.         Students are required by law to attend school every day. A physician’s note may be required when a student’s absence due to illness becomes chronic or excessive.

4.         Students are expected to maintain appropriate behavior while being transported to and from school. Student behavior that creates unsafe conditions or endangers others will not be tolerated and may result in suspension from transportation.

5.         Students are expected to participate in all activities associated with the IEP or a physician’s directive.

6.         Student use of the telephone requires parental/guardian permission and is allowed only  with staff approval.

7.         Physical aggression against staff will not be tolerated and may result in legal action.  Physical aggression against another student will be reported  to that student’s parents who  may take legal action.

8.         Parents or guardians must provide the school with current and correct information regarding the home address and telephone numbers (home and work). The names and telephone numbers of at least two other people who the school can contact in the event of an emergency are also required.

9.         Students will not be released to any person other than the parent or guardian without permission signed by the parent or guardian.

10.       Students will not be permitted to participate in any off-campus activities and programs unless the school has a signed Permission Form on file for the current school year.

Behavior Management

Ivy Creek School uses the Mandt System, in addition to basic behavior management strategies, to manage student behaviors. The program is a system of alternatives for de-escalating and managing people using a combination of interpersonal communication skills and physical interaction techniques.

Student/Insurance

Families are encouraged to purchase the low cost student accident and injury insurance that is made available to them. While we will do all that we can to keep children safe, accidents do occur which may require medical or dental treatment.

Meals

Student lunches are provided through the Albemarle County Schools. Families are encouraged to complete the free/reduced lunch applications. Students not receiving free or reduced lunches are required to pay $1.85 for grades K-5 and $2.10  for grades 6-12, and breakfast is available for $1.25 per day. The school is unable to advance money to pay for student lunches. Students may be provided snacks occasionally during the school day.
